New fire safety laws for landlords
Posted 31/05/2016 by Macdonald Martin Ltd.
New legislation came into force last October meaning all private rentals should be fitted with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Landlords must fit smoke alarms on each floor of their properties as well as install carbon monoxide alarms in rooms which hold solid fuel burners, for example cookers and heaters. If this is not complied with they could face a £5,000 fine.
Although it is reported most landlords are conforming to these new regulations, it is said there still is confusion amongst both landlords and tenants regarding their responsibilities in regards to the new law.
